Your RERA broker card in Dubai, renewal and exemptions
People say “RERA licence”, “RERA certificate” or “broker card”. Officially, it is the real estate professional practice card, issued by the Dubai Land Department (DLD). RERA is the regulatory agency that is part of the DLD. Without this card, you are not allowed to practise as a broker in Dubai.
What the DLD asks for
- A certificate of good conduct from Dubai Police.
- A pass in the broker exam.
- A personal photo and a copy of your Emirates ID.
You register through your brokerage: the card is linked to a licensed real estate office. The DLD states that the validity of the card is linked to the validity of the trade licence of the office.
How much it costs
| Item | Amount (AED) |
|---|---|
| Broker card (issue) | 500 |
| Broker exam | 700 |
| Knowledge fee | 10 |
| Innovation fee | 10 |
| ERES fee | 50 + VAT |
| Broker card (renewal) | 500, plus the 10 knowledge fee and 10 innovation fee |
The training course is paid separately to the training provider, and its price varies. These are the fees published by the DLD on its service pages, last updated on 7 October 2026. Check them again before you pay.
Who is exempt from the exam
According to the DLD, three groups do not have to sit the exam:
- people above 55 years of age;
- brokers with 5 consecutive years of service in the same real estate office;
- holders of a start-up licence (رخصة انطلاق).
How to renew
Renewal is done online on the DLD website (Trakheesi) or in the Dubai REST app, and is paid by card, e-Dirham or Noqodi. The DLD lists a processing time of 5 minutes once the request is complete. You need a copy of your Emirates ID and of a valid passport.
Before you join an agency
Ask the agency, in writing:
- Who pays the training, the exam and the card?
- If you leave within the first year, do you have to pay anything back?
- Is the agency’s trade licence valid? Your card depends on it. You can check the agency’s ORN yourself.
